Akhilesh's austerity drive: 32 cars dropped from his fleet Indo-Asian News Service , Updated: March 30, 2012 14:49 IST Lucknow:  Surprising even his officials, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has issued orders to cut down the cars in his fleet from 40 to just eight and also ordered the specialized hospital operating in his official residence to shut down . Thirty-two cars have been ordered to be taken away from the Chief Minister's fleet and repatriated to the Rajya Sampatti Vibhag (state property wing), a senior official with the Chief Minister's security said. "The only cars that would now be accompanying the motorcade of the Chief Minister would be a fleet of ambassadors and an SUV fitted with jammers," the official said. Department of Economic and Social Affairs report indicating that India is not a safe place for the girl child hit the headlines in many newspapers and news channels in the country. Indian society has been known for its preference for the male child. Among the 150 countries surveyed, including countries classified as LDR (Less Developed Regions), India has the highest rate of female child mortality. According to this new data - an Indian girl between the ages of one and five years old is 75 percent more likely to die than an Indian boy, giving the country the worst gender differential in child mortality in the world. Baby Falak, age 2, dies of heart attack in hospital Reported by Tanima Biswas , Updated: March 15, 2012 23:07 IST New Delhi:  The baby who India saw in photographs, a black band placed across her eyes to protect her identity, has died in hospital. On Sunday, she would have completed two months at Delhi's AIIMS, where doctors treated her for unimaginable horrors inflicted upon her. She died of a heart attack - her third in these two months. Lately, doctors had felt she was recovering from the different medical complications that were the result of having her face bitten, her head smashed into a wall, and her chest being burnt with a hot clothes iron. Doctors attending to Falak say her heart rate had been fluctuating all day. They suspect her heart was weak due to the two cardiac arrests she had suffered from earlier. Doctors are shocked as Falak was off the ventilator and was recovering well. She was brought to hospital on January 18 by a teen who said the infant h

Doctors looking after two-year-old Baby Falak at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi have said that the toddler has survived. She was brought to the hospital on January 18 in a severely battered and bruised condition . After over 45 days of treatment, she is now out of coma and has been off ventilator support for the past five days. Yesterday, Falak was shifted from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital to the children's ward. "We have shifted her to the ward. She is doing fine. We have removed the plaster from her hands and she is moving her limbs. She cries badly when anyone goes close to her . She has no infection or breathing problem now," doctors said.
